So there must be a way that makes a editing software powerful and probably the best. Here are some point that are considered to rank  a video editing software.

While some people are looking for an editing software that is capable of doing basic tasks, while others are looking for a powerful video editor that is capable of doing advanced tasks. So I will divide it into 3 categories, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. In each category I will give you a list of two video editing software's and you can pick any one of them according to your priorities.

Basic video editing software: So if you just started out editing videos then the software's listed in this category. Editing software's in this list will allow you  to do some entry level editing including
joining or split two clips, add background music, and a little bit of video animation. The requirements of these software's are really less and will support most of the machines.

Intermediate video editing software:  Video editors in this list will allow you to do some more functions and will give you more control over the video you could do extra things like adding text with animations and a variety of cool transitions. Overall it might sum up as a decent youtube video editor although you will need a mid-range machine to make it run smoothly

Advanced video editing software: The video editors in this list are probably the best and  the most powerful editors available today. They offer wide variety of features and give full controls over the video. They allow you to perform advanced level tasks although the requirements to run these software are generally high.

1. Windows movie maker

According to many sources Windows Movie Maker is considered to be one of the best video editors for beginners. It allows you to basic things like joining or split two clips, add background music, and a little bit of video animation. The software does not have a lot of requirements and will work on most machines. If you try to find tutorials on how to use Windows Movie Maker there are a lot of them available which might help you out! The interface is clean and overall is decent.

2. iMovie

This is yet another editing software which has features close to what is offered by Movie Maker. The software allows you to do some basic tasks like joining or split two clips, add background music, and a little bit of video animation. In my testing it worked well. Although its only available for iMac or Mac book pro. So if you owe any of those machines then there is no looking further use it, it comes pre-installed. If you try to find tutorials on how to use iMovie there are a lot of them available which might help you out!

Intermediate video editing software

1. Wondershare Filmora

Wondershare filmora is another powerful video editing software which offer extra features and gives you more control over the footage. Wondershare filmora  has a intuitive UI and comes with a lot of cool text animations and transitions. Overall it could be a great video editing software.

2. Camtasia Studio

Camtasia Studio is yet another powerful editor which almost has the same functionality as Wondershare filmora what makes them different is features. In terms of changing the video (Not text and transition) Camtasia has a lot of features to play around with. One of its highlighting feature is its inbuilt screen recorder it lets you record your screen and then lets you edit it on the go without any hassle. Overall both of them do a decent job and you can pick any one of them according to your priorities.

Advanced video editing software

1. Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe Premiere Pro is probably one of the most powerful video editing software available today. It offers complete controls over the footage and lets you tweak everything. Features like advanced Colour correction, magnetic timeline, keyboard shortcuts are there in this software.Although Adobe Premiere Pro is really expensive coming at around $240/year. Another really powerful editing software is final cut pro which in my opinion is better, we will come to that in a moment. Some major reasons that might lure you in learning it

1. It gives you more control on each frame.
2. If you have plans to stay inside the Adobe ecosystem, like Illustrator, and After Effects etc. Then you can directly import the project file from After Effects to Premiere Pro.

2. Final Cut Pro

Final cut pro is a really powerful editing software which offers almost all advanced features like in Premiere Pro and gives you complete control over the footage. Now one the main reasons to like Final Cut Pro are rendering speeds, its super fast! Just for comparison when same footage was rendered on FCPX and Premiere Pro together, after a while the complete video was rendered in FCPX while Premiere Pro was still stuck at 30%.

Platform – Mac only 

Conclusion: Which is the Best

All the video editors worked really smooth during my testing. If you are beginner  and are using Windows go with Movie Maker and if Mac go with iMovie. If your level intermediate I would suggest you to go with Camtasia Studio & finally if you are looking for an advanced and powerful editing software hands down go with FCPX if you are Mac user if not Premiere is your way to go!
