Android 8.0 Oreo is official: Release Date & New Features!

It's finally here! Android O is now officially Android Oreo. Google recently unveiled it and the update will soon roll out for the Pixel and Nexus devices. Android O is packed with plethora of features and a ton of enhancements.



Android 8.0, Oreo brings a lot of new improvements and changes, so here is everything you need to know about the Android Oreo.

New Features of Android O

The new Android Oreo is much more Smarter, faster, powerful and better than ever. There is a significant time difference in the booting time on Android 8.0 will help you minimize background activity, and will give you more controls over helping you save battery and boost up the speed of your device. The all new Android Oreo Autofills your login information by remembering them, this is really a handy feature and helps you save time. Android O won't be restricted to phones, so there will be improved arrow and tab key navigation for when used with a physical keyboard. Also Android O will have a multi-display support allowing the user to move one activity from one screen to the next. Android 8.0 is now smarter, after selecting any text it will detect to which app it will correspond to and will give relevant suggestions i.e if you select an address there will be a suggestion to open up Google Maps. The Android O also comes with a picture-in-picture mode which allows you to see two apps at once enhancing your multi-tasking experience. Android Oreo now comes with a new notification dot feature which basically indicates your unread notifications. You can also long press on the app itself which will give some controls over the app from your home screen itself. Android Oreo also comes with an inbuilt battery saver as well as a whole new re-designed collection of emojis.


Android O Release Date

Google will begin rolling out the OTA update to Pixel and Nexus devices soon, but right now is pushing Oreo only to Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for other manufacturers to begin working on their own updates. Google will soon push out OTA updates for Pixel and Nexus devices, but if you would have signed up for the beta program the update has already started to roll out the Google Pixel/ Pixel XL. If you have signed for the beta program you will receive the final version soon.


Will my phone get Android O?
As you might know Google phones like the Pixel and Nexus are the first one's to get the update and it is confirmed that Pixel X/ XL/ and Nexus 5X/6P will get the update. Also If you have a recent flagship phone or a mid-range from a well-known smartphone manufacturer such as Sony, Samsung, HTC, LG or Motorola, it's likely you'll get the update rolled out within the next few months.

Google is already pushing out the AOSP code to other manufacturers to roll out updates on their existing devices in addition some smartphone manufactures have already confirmed updates for some specific devices like Moto G4 Plus, One plus 3/ 3t and One plus 5 are some of the devices that will get the Android O update.
