DISPLAY
The Note 8 comes with a 6.3 inch AMOLED screen with a Quad-HD display (2560X1440 pixels). The phone has a pixel density of 522 and has curved edges on both the sides like the Note 7. This display has been a great display and this aspect ratio which Samsung introduced with the s8 has changed the trend in the smartphone market (credit shared with the LG G60). The phone weights around 195 grams which is quite heavy in my opinion.
PERFORMANCE & Hardware
The phone is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 8895 or the Snapdragon 835 but what add's in the performance department is extra 2GB RAM over the 4GB RAM as seen on the Galaxy S8 which makes a total of 6GB RAM. The phone is only available in the 64GB variant although there is an option to expand storage via the hybrid sim slot. The phone comes with a 3300 mAh which is significantly less than what was there on the Note 7 for some obvious reasons. Just like the Samsung Galaxy S8 the phone has a fingerprint sensor located at the back. The phone has a USB Type-C port for charging and supports wireless charging.
CAMERA
Samsung has finally
gone for the dual camera setup in the Note 8. The Note 8 has two 12MP shooters at the back with an aperture of f/1.7 & f/1.9 respectively. The camera has phase detection auto-focus , 2x optical zoom and dual tone dual LED flash. The Note 8 offers the increasingly popular portrait mode. One cool feature of the camera is that it let's you change the focus of the image after it has been clicked. The rear camera can shoot in 4K at 30fps. The front camera is a 8MP shooter with an aperture of f/1.7 and can shoot 1440p at 30fps. Samsung is able to see
how the market took the dual camera idea and they seem to have got it right with
this camera which is able to capture wide angle photos and being able to use the lens
to create background blur. Samsung has definitely brought out the best from a
dual camera something consumers were really looking forward to.
DESIGN
The Note 8
is no different from the s8 when it comes slim bezels and as Samsung like to calls
it ‘Infinity Display’ which not a term very far away from describing the curve
and bezels on the phone however the Note 8’s screen isn’t as curved as that of
the s8 but personally I’m neutral with that as it still has that amazing aspect
ratio. It’s definitely a larger phone than the s8 like I mentioned earlier but
again that is what the Note series has been about. It is also a very slim phone
to hold and gives a really good and premium feel when holding the device.
OTHER FEATURES
The S pen
adds a lot features to the device and some interesting ones too like live messages
which is an and is somehow more of a gimmick and an answer to what Apple has
been doing with the likes of live photos. Typing and drawing has always been an
ease with pen in the Note series. The Note 8 gets wireless charging and
waterproofing like the previous models. It also gets fast charging. It does get
a 3300 mAh battery which has been tested rigorously for not exploding like the
s8 (Samsung learning from the Note 8).
